Notes:
On November 13, 2022, three University of Virginia students—D’Sean Perry, Lavel Davis Jr., and Devin Chandler—were tragically murdered, with Michael Hollins and Marlee Morgan sustaining injuries. Returning home from the Charlottesville Amtrak station, I received urgent messages about an active shooter less than a mile away. The following morning brought the devastating news of their deaths. Amidst the grief, my focus shifted to this work. This composition–written for electronics, percussion, and saxophone–emerged from this tragic period. The number 222 represents a statistic that one in 222 people in the United States is projected to be killed by gun violence at this current rate.
